Dead by Daylight Chapter 22: Artist, Jonah, and the Eyrie of Crows
Dead by Daylight Chapter 22 introduces killer The Artist and survivor Jonah Vasquez with cross-map pressure perks and meta-shifting updates.
Behaviour Interactive has delivered another substantial update to Dead by Daylight with Chapter 22, introducing a new Killer, a new Survivor, a fresh map, and several quality-of-life improvements. Players who plan to stay ahead of the evolving meta will need to understand how The Artist and Jonah Vasquez change the flow of a trial. The update also refines The Cenobite, adjusts add-ons, and cleans up the user interface in ways that affect both sides of the community.
The Artist: A New Killer Built Around Cross-Map Pressure
The Artist is the latest original Killer to arrive in the fog, and her visual design immediately stands out. With a kafkaesque inspiration and a haunting, avian silhouette, she brings a distinct presence to the roster. Knowing what to expect from her is useful whether players intend to play as her or against her.

Her unique power allows her to send out up to three Phantasmal Crows. These crows can damage Survivors on direct hits or travel through objects to mark them and interrupt actions. That combination makes The Artist effective at applying pressure across the map and cutting off difficult chase routes, forcing Survivors to respect angles they might normally ignore.
Grim Embrace

Whenever a Survivor is hooked for the first time, The Artist gains a token. At four tokens, all generators become blocked for 30 seconds and the Obsession's aura is revealed for four seconds. With Grim Embrace, Killers can slow the pace of a match dramatically. The value is highest when Killers spread pressure around the map instead of tunnelling a single Survivor. Survivors, on the other hand, can limit the perk's impact by playing altruistically and preventing four unique hooks from happening too quickly.
Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance

At the start of a trial, up to four random hooks become scourge hooks. Each time a Survivor is hooked on one of them, the generator with the most progress explodes, loses up to 15 percent progress, and starts to regress. Any Survivor repairing that generator screams, revealing their position. Pain Resonance is a powerful tool for applying generator pressure while staying focused on the chase. However, Killers must give up guaranteed generator control in exchange for that pressure. Survivors should recognise the perk after the first hook and make sure to tap the generator or stop repairing while the Killer is performing a hook.
Hex: Pentimento

Hex: Pentimento lets The Artist see broken totems and resurrect them as Rekindled Totems. Each rekindled totem applies a stacking penalty that can reshape the mid-to-late game.
| Rekindled Totems | Effect |
|---|---|
| One | Reduces Survivor repair speed by 30 percent |
| Two | Reduces Survivor healing speed by 30 percent |
| Three | Reduces Survivor recovery speed from the dying state by 30 percent |
| Four | Reduces Survivor exit gate opening speed by 30 percent |
| Five | All totems are blocked by the Entity |
Pentimento will likely shape the meta and works especially well alongside other Hex perks. Survivors are forced to weigh whether cleansing a totem is worth the risk of The Artist rekindling it later. Killers can use that uncertainty to build pressure, while Survivors need to prioritise lit totems and decide how aggressively they want to play around Hex builds.
Jonah Vasquez: A Mathematical Mind Joins the Survivor Lineup
Jonah Vasquez is the newest Survivor, and his lore describes him as a mathematical genius. That concept fits neatly into Behaviour's expanding original universe. His perks lean toward chase survival, team support, and recovery, giving him a versatile place in many builds.

Overcome

After becoming injured, Jonah retains the movement speed burst for an additional two seconds. Overcome is a solid chase extender and can safely create distance after a hit. It may end up underrated because it pairs well with perks like Dance With Me and Lucky Break, helping Survivors vanish after taking damage and win mind games.
Corrective Action

Corrective Action starts with up to three tokens, and great skill checks while repairing can add more, up to five. If a teammate working on the same generator misses a skill check, one token is consumed and the failed action becomes a good one. Veteran players may not need this regularly, but it is helpful for newer teammates or for covering occasional mistakes in high-pressure moments.
Boon: Exponential

Boon: Exponential allows Jonah to bless a dull or hex totem, granting up to 100 percent recovery speed while also unlocking the ability to self-recover from the dying state. Following the trend of Boon Totems, Exponential is especially strong on small and indoor maps. When combined with Unbreakable or Tenacity, it can remove the Killer's option to slug Survivors entirely.
The New Map: Eyrie of Crows
The Eyrie of Crows, located in the Forsaken Boneyard, is a medium-sized outdoor map with a desolate, forgotten atmosphere. A main building sits near the centre, and a hollowed-out tree connects its upper and lower levels. The area is filled with detail, but it also offers balanced gameplay opportunities.

Survivors can use loops and T and L walls, while Killers benefit from open areas that support map-wide pressure. Overall, the map appears to be one of the more balanced additions in recent memory, offering neither side an overwhelming advantage.
Cenobite Add-On Adjustments
The Cenobite, a popular licensed Killer, continues to receive attention from Behaviour. Many of his add-ons have been fine-tuned or nerfed, with a particular focus on his ultra-rare offerings. The goal is to prevent his add-ons from taking over matches while preserving the enjoyment of playing him.

Quality-of-Life UI Changes
Chapter 22 also brings meaningful user interface improvements. The perk menu now lets players skip directly to specific perks instead of cycling through them one by one. Subtitles have also been added to the HUD and can be toggled in the options menu. These smaller updates make the game easier to navigate and add up to a noticeable quality-of-life improvement for regular players.
Dead by Daylight continues to evolve, and Chapter 22 gives both Killers and Survivors plenty of new tools to master. From The Artist's cross-map crow pressure to Jonah's recovery-focused perks and the balanced Eyrie of Crows, the update adds meaningful variety to every trial.
